Prison Rodeo

Anyone know what a prison rodeo is? I certainly didn't! I am now working in the Justice department and when I read this article...it blew me away. I won't say anymore as it speaks for itself but please read and let me know your thoughts!

  1. I had certainly heard of prison rodeos, but I didn't know exactly what the details were!

My first reaction, which I believe to be quite natural, is to shudder a bit at the thought of that. It's just strange to think about being so close to someone who has done something so terrible (and having your kids around them, too). That being said, there are people who have done the exact same types of things and have since been released from prison or something. Then, you're up close to them, but you don't even know they were a prisoner. At least in this case, you would know. It just goes to show how little we know of other people!

I think that it's good that they are rewarded for good behavior because then there is some incentive to be a better person. There are many people who commit a terrible crime, do their time in jail and learn from it, and then they are one of the kindest, most generous people in society. That particular prison has very long sentences for things that people around here would only serve 10 years for. If someone can become a better person in 10 years then be released, the same can happen for a person who is serving a longer-than-life sentence.

    Very interesting and thought-provoking!
